From labs to prefabs: how are scientists, R&D departments, developers and designers working together to make our cities better?

26th April @ 6:30 pm

Discover the vital steps it takes to successfully develop an innovative product.

This event puts facades and flooring at the forefront and will look into the research and development of unique technologies. R&D is key in discovering new demand, new materials and new testing methods. See how such products are being developed in order to deliver cutting-edge solutions to the built environment.

Draw from the experience of Trimo, who produced a facade solution for the Home Arts Centre in Manchester, by working alongside Mecanoo Architects. They tested different grades of stainless steel until a low carbon grade was proven to be the ideal solution; meeting the aesthetic and performance requirements of the design. Also hear from small start-up company, Polysolar who secured funding from Innovate UK to bring a new product to market. And discover the future of an energy-harvesting floor technology that converts footsteps into electricity using waste and cost-effective material, wood pulp. Find out the research and tests being done in order to optimize this technology for launch into the market.
